Crucial AMMA meeting might happen in three phases
08 August 2018

A crucial meeting of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is all set to get underway at Hotel Crown Plaza near Kochi.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of banner of revolt raised by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) following attempts by AMMA to reinstate actor Dileep who is the accused in the sexual assault case of an actor. AMMA executive committee members including president Mohanlal and general secretary Edavela Babu have reached the venue.

Initial reports suggest that the meeting is likely to take place in three phases. First, AMMA executive meeting will be held. It will be followed by meeting with actors Revathy, Parvathy and Padmapriya who had written to AMMA calling for a meeting to clear the air over the recent issues.

AMMA executive committee members will then meet actors Joy Mathew and Shammi Thilakan who had also written to the organisation urging changes in its functioning in keeping with the times and also to look afresh into its past action to ban late actor Thilakan during his last days.

Crisis erupted after AMMA at a recent general body meeting tried to reinstate Dileep. Following this, four women actors, including the victim, submitted their resignations from AMMA. Ramya Nmabeeshan, Geethu Mohandas and Reema Kallingal were the other three.

It was in the wake of their resignation that the trio of Revathy, Parvathy and Padmapriya wrote to AMMA demanding a meeting to discuss the issue.
